In the Open era of tennis, the greatest rivalry has been undoubtedly Chris Evert-Martina Navratilova. Connors-McEnroe, Venus-Serena and now Federer-Nadal have also captured tennis fans’ rapt attention. But before any of these rivalries – way before – there was a struggle on the grass of Wimbledon that encompassed so much more than the game. It pitted #1 against #2, Capitalism against Fascism and, yes, straight against gay. |

AIDS/Lifecycle educates, raises $$$ for fight against deadly disease
Imagine you haven’t been on a bicycle since you were a kid. In fact, you don’t even own a bicycle, let alone one good enough to make it from San Francisco to Los Angeles. And you definitely do not consider yourself an athlete. Now imagine you agreed to do just that: pedal the 545 miles that separates the two California cities, traversing the Pacific Coast Highway and further inland routes that take you through wine country and farmland. You’d probably figure out that you’ve got some serious preparations ahead of you. |

More Compete headed your way
It has been two years since Perez Hilton first blogged about our inaugural swimsuit issue, drawing so many hits to our Web site that it shut our server down. In 2007 we featured gay and gay-supportive athletes from Dallas. We followed up our premier swimsuit issue by throwing a pool party in Phoenix and inviting local athletes to share in the fun — and the photo shoot. |
